A Base Station Assignment Strategy for Radio Access Networks with Backhaul Constraints
نویسندگان
چکیده
Existing base station (BS) assignment methods in mobile networks are mainly driven by radio conditions. This is because it is assumed that the limiting factor in the access network is basically on the air interface. However, a growing concern is that the transport part of the mobile network can also represent a bottleneck. Thus, mechanisms only based on radio conditions may assign a user to a BS with an overloaded transport, which in turn may result in a degradation of the end user throughput and quality of service. In this paper we analyse a BS assignment strategy that incorporates transport capacity constraints in the decision making process of assigning the most suitable BS to mobile users. The strategy is compared to two common schemes which are exclusively based on air interface aspects. Provided results show that the proposed BS assignment strategy can effectively accommodate more connections than traditional techniques so that both radio and transport requirements are fulfilled in backhaul limited RAN deployment scenarios.

Backhaul-Aware Decoupled Uplink and Downlink User Association, Subcarrier Allocation, and Power Control in FiWi HetNets
Decoupling the uplink and downlink user association improves the throughput of heterogeneous networks (HetNets) and balances the traffic load of macro- and small- base stations. Recently, fiber-wireless HetNets (FiWi-HetNets) have been considered as viable solutions for access networks. To improve the accuracy of user association and resource allocation algorithms in FiWi-HetNets, the capacity ...

Operators, struggling to continuously add capacity and upgrade their architecture to keep up with data traffic increase, are turning their attention to denser deployments that improve spectral efficiency. Denser deployments make the problem of user association challenging, and much work has been devoted to finding algorithms that strike a tradeoff between user quality of service (QoS), and netw...
متن کاملCloud Radio Access Network with Optimized Base-station Caching
The performance of cloud radio access networks (CRAN) is limited by the finite capacities of the backhaul links connecting the cloud with the base-stations (BSs). A promising approach to improving the performance of C-RAN is to augment the backhaul through BS caching, where the BSs pre-store some of the popular contents. In this paper, we first derive a multicast backhaul rate expression based ...

Femtocells are low power base stations that provide better radio coverage to portable users through femtocell access point (FAP) at the indoor scenario. The access node named as FAP, perform as the base station (BS) for the femtocell and take help of internet as backhaul to get connected with MBS. In these emerging dual layer networks, handoff facilitates for a mobile user moving from a network...
